Serenity, history, scenery…it is hard to imagine a more
perfect setting for a country inn. Only 25 minutes from downtown
Ottawa, the Wakefield Mill offers accommodations in a remarkable
1838 stone mill. The historic ambience created by the four-foot-thick
stone walls and open hearth fireplaces is complemented by a
setting that provides for exceptional outdoor activity: cycling,
hiking, kayaking, downhill and cross-country skiing are all
easily accessible from the inn.
For those who love creature comforts, the inn’s 26 rooms
are tranquil havens for relaxation. Many rooms have jacuzzi
tubs or fireplaces, and some rooms overlook the tumbling waterfall.
The dining room serves excellent cuisine with an emphasis on
local foods organically raised. Baked goods are made on the
premises ground using original mill machinery. The wine list
features a good variety of wines, with an emphasis on hard to
find French vintages.
The scenic forest, lakes and rivers called Gatineau Park are
close to the inn, and guests may snowmobile throughout the Laurentian
trails or go trail riding nearby. Wakefield Mill is also close
to photogenic Wakefield, with its antique and crafts shops.
Historic sites such as the Mackenzie King Estate are nearby,
as is the famous Wakefield Steam Train. |
