Ottawa Amusement

Ottawa’s tourism community has adopted a “Child and Youth Friendly Program” that will help ensure that our accommodations, festivals, attractions, restaurants and stores will be equipped to welcome our young visitors.  There is something for every age group available.  Here are some ideas to help you plan an interesting program for your younger delegates! If you would like more information please feel free to contact us.

Learning can be fun too!

  • experience the wonder of IMAX / OMNIMAX theatre, or take a trip around the world at the fascinating children’s museum, at the Canadian Museum of Civilization
  • learn all about farming at the Agriculture Museum, and at the centrally located working farm in the heart of the city, theCentral Experimental Farm
  • Canadian Museum of Nature’s audio-visual shows and interactive displays introduce the world of nature to the curious
  • discover the universe with the National Museum of Science and Technology’s out of this world astronomy program
  • combine learning and fun at the National Aviation Museum through films, interactive exhibits and lively multimedia displays, such as their virtual reality hang-glider simulator
  • experience the times of Confederation on a special tour of four rooms in the East Block of Parliament Hill where Canada’s first prime minister worked.
  • sit in on the ceremony at Rideau Hall when new ambassadors to Canada present their letters of credence to the Governor General of Canada
  • tour the Ottawa locks of the Rideau Canal to learn about the history, environment, and development in the 19th century

Outdoor Adventures:

  • learn about maple syrup production and early pioneer life at various sites, such as Fulton’s Pancake House and Sugar Bush, Wheeler’s Pancake House and Sugar Camp, Macskimming Outdoor Education Centre and the Sand Road Sugar Camp
  • skate on the world’s longest skating rink - the Rideau Canal - and warm up with hot chocolate and a “Beavertail” pastry; in summer, organize a group canoe outing along the canal
  • tackle the rapids of the Ottawa River - one of North America’s best rivers for whitewater rafting
  • get in touch with nature at numerous conservation areas in the region, and in Gatineau Park, just minutes north of Ottawa
  • discover the wonders of the largest natural caves in the Canadian Shield at the Lafleche Caves in the Gatineau Hills
  • tour the city in an unusual way - on a bicycle, or with roller blades, or on foot with a haunted walking tour

Just Plain Fun:

  • a night to remember - evening programs and sleep-overs at the Canadian museums of nature, aviation, and science and technology
  • stay overnight and tour an interesting old jail; the Ottawa International Hostel was Ottawa’s jail for nearly 100 years, and the site of Canada’s last public hanging
  • take in a professional hockey game with the NHL Ottawa Senators - at affordable youth prices
  • let the young, and young-at-heart, compete against one another in fast-paced, high-tech fun at Cyber Dome or  Laser Quest
