Our Mission

In a collaborative manner, the Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre is committed to improving the quality of life for all individuals and to building a safe and healthy community.

Our Vision

To ensure the Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre is an accessible, visible, expanding centre that recognizes diversity and strives for excellence in service delivery.

Since 1979, the Centre has been offering a wide range of social and community services which include: counseling for individuals, families, children and youth; crisis intervention; individual and group support to women facing abuse and to children who witness violence; services for older adults, caregivers and persons with disabilities; information, resources and referral workshops and self-help groups; community development initiatives; and other services.

Basic Beliefs

People who have additional needs due to age, language, race, culture, religion, disability, income, geographical location, family status and sexual orientation have a right to services that are sensitive to and reflect those needs and are provided in a respectful, confidential and non-judgmental way.

It is a basic human right for all individuals to live their lives in a non-violent environment.

All members of the community and programs of the Centre must be involved in public education and outreach activities as well as activities that contribute to social change.

Employees and Board members of the Centre must be involved in activities that contribute to social change.

Services must be accountable to the people who use the service and the staff and volunteers in the community.

Violence against women is not a private family matter but a criminal offence, which demands that perpetrators, not their victims, be held responsible for the violence. A coordinated comprehensive community approach to service delivery is essential to effectively meet the many needs of the community.

People can take control of aspects of their lives provided they are given true choices, accurate information and the opportunity to be equal partners in all aspects of society. People who use our services and volunteers and staff who work at our Centre have a right to be treated in a respectful, non-judgmental way.

All employees, consumers and volunteers of the Centre have the right to work in a safe environment without fear of harassment. Community members and consumers are essential partners in the work of program development and evaluation, and addressing social issues at both the individual and systemic levels.
