There are more than 9,300 hotel rooms in the Ottawa Region, including almost 6,000 in downtown Ottawa. The average hotel occupancy rate in 1998 was 73.7 per cent. Ottawa's conference centres, together with nearby hotels, accommodate 700 conventions per year, attended by more than 190,000 delegates spending $150 million per year.

The Ottawa Congress Centre accommodates up to 5,000 people in its 84,114 square feet of convention space, just a stone's throw from 1,500 hotel rooms, a 200-store shopping complex at the Rideau Centre, and all the attractions and amenities of the Capital's central core. For larger conventions there are 2000 hotel rooms and 200,000 square feet of meeting space close to the Congress Centre.
