Since 1971 Counterpoint Academy West™ has specialized in private elementary school education in Ottawa, Ontario for Canadian and International students. A superior private school academic curriculum is delivered by teacher specialists in both the elementary school and the daycare. Counterpoint™ children are given a solid academic base with a well-rounded curriculum grounded in academic core subjects including literacy and numeracy augmented with the sciences, arts, and physical and health education. Our calm, supportive, and structured environment provide the framework for children to build self-confidence, take risks and move forward with success.

Frequent cultural, educational and recreational field trips throughout the Ottawa region provide hands-on experiences, which make learning real for many children. Private tutoring during the school day provides added support, if necessary. Meet our dedicated and talented staff!  Our teachers are qualified for the classes that they teach. Our teachers hold degrees in education, child studies, degrees in subject areas related to their teaching area, or have significant experience in their subject. Our teachers work closely together in a team-setting, collaborating on themes, cross-curricular activities.

Academic Tutoring: Help with school work

At times students may want to get ahead in one area, or need help with an academic subject. Teachers often work one-on-one with a student during the regular class period. At other times parents and/or teachers identify the need for extra help. Counterpoint West™ is able to arrange for assessment and tutoring during regular school hours.

Speech and Language Therapy: Help with communication

Counterpoint Academy West™ works closely with Speech and Language Therapists to ensure that children experiencing difficulties in this area are identified quickly, and appropriate support is initiated as soon as possible. Sessions occur on-site during regular school hours.

English as a Second Language

International students who require assistance with English take private ESL tutoring during regular school hours. Our goal is to help these children feel part of the Counterpoint™ community as quickly as they can.

Teachers pay close attention to students for whom English is not their first language. We link these boys and girls with peers in the classroom and in the schoolyard. Canadian students love to show our new International boys and girls the fun of skating, skiing, curling and other typical winter sports in Canada. Vocabulary follows quickly in this atmosphere of fun and friendship.

Counterpoint Academy West

Children succeed through our high academic standards

Counterpoint Academy West is a community of children in preschool (2.5 to 4 years old) and elementary school (kindergarten to grade 6). We offer a complete extended day programs for all ages, opening from 7:30am to 5:30pm.

Our daycare encourages learning through play

Our elementary school boasts a reputation in Kanata, Stittsville and the West end of Ottawa of second to none when it comes to academics.

Starting in preschool, children are exposed to a literacy and numeracy rich environment with stimulating and challenging activities for development in fine-motor, gross-motor, music, science, gym, as well as in both official languages. Our preschool is bilingual (English & French), with English circle time, French circle time, and interaction in both English and French through the day.

Kindergarten consists of two years: junior kindergarten and senior kindergarten. Children in JK complete the full kindergarten curriculum. In their SK year, children review the kindergarten curriculum, and move into grade one skills and content. Children are given a solid beginning to build a foundation of literacy and numeracy, upon which to build their language arts and math skills for the rest of their schooling.

Many children from the neighbourhood and other schools join us for our before and after school programmes! Loving and caring supervision by staff in a school environment give parents peace of mind. After school clubs such as robotics, cCounterpoint Academy Westhess, cooking, craft, musical theatre, and more) give elementary school aged children hands-on experiences!
