Established in 1879, the Ottawa School of Art (OSA) is a key contributor to the City’s vibrant cultural community. As a non-profit, charitable organization, the OSA is an educational center for the visual arts providing the community with the opportunity for creative expression, development and growth based on an orderly progression in knowledge and skills. Within a well-defined program, it offers high quality instruction to all levels through direct involvement with professional artists.
The Ottawa School of Art offers Diploma and Certificate Programs, and a full range of community level art courses including drawing, painting, photography, new media, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and a wide variety of specialized short courses and workshops. Children's and Teens' classes range from multi-media to animation and cartooning, to sculpture and construction, pottery, drawing and painting.
With the Main Campus operating out of the dynamic ByWard Market at 35 George St. and the Orleans Campus located in the new Shenkman Arts Centre (SAC) on Centrum Blvd., the OSA continues to provide traditional and new media courses for children and adults; accessible hours; a successful Outreach Program; and six free gallery spaces across the National Capital Region. The OSA proudly offers practicing artists photography labs, sculpture, ceramics, woodworking, drawing and painting studios to work in and is home to the only public printmaking studio in Eastern Ontario.
