Ottawa Event Date:
Thursday, November 26, 2009

Location: Scotiabank Place

Honouring: Julie Tubman, President and Owner, Tubman Funeral Homes

For the last three years, the Sens Foundation, and Max Keeping Foundation have partnered together for the Just One Person Awards celebration.  This event has not only provided important funds for scholarship programs benefiting Wards of the Crown, but has also celebrated one person in our community who has quietly and with dignity helped to make a positive change for our youth.

We are proud to announce the support once again this year of Carleton University.  The engagement of Carleton University and it’s generosity in matching the funds raised from this special event allows us to expand scholarship opportunities within our community.

It is also our extreme honour to announce that this year’s Just One Person award recipient has been selected,  JULIE TUBMAN, President and Owner of Tubman Funeral Homes. Mrs. Tubman has spearheaded many initiatives in our community that have improved the lives of countless children and youth.

Please join us Thursday, November 26th at Scotiabank Place for a reception dinner celebrating Ms. Tubman’s accomplishments and then see your Ottawa Senators take on the Columbus Blue Jackets!

Through this event we hope to raise $30,000 which when matched by Carleton University, and then combined with matching funds from the Government of Ontario’s Student Opportunity Trust Fund would realize an endowment fund of $90,000. This endowment, combined with funds previously contributed would realize a total of $360,000 endowed for children and youth in our communities.

It is the intention of the Sens Foundation, Max Keeping Foundation and Carleton University to challenge other organizations and post secondary institutions across Canada to create a similar awards program and scholarship fund so that the tens of thousands children-in-care from coast to coast will know they too will get the chance to follow their dreams.  This event has already increased awareness at Queen’s Park of the great need that exists.

There are 800-1000 youth living under Children’s Aid Society in Ottawa every day.  These are kids who need more people in their corner.  Your participation in this event helps level the playing field and gives these youth opportunities they would not have otherwise.

“People really come to this event for me?”  This is the question raised by one of the youth-in-care attending last year’s event.  Follow Julie’s lead and participate in this amazing event!  Participants will enjoy a pre-game dinner at Scotiabank Place and great seats for the game.

Download our ticket purchase form or contact us at 613-599-0323.  Bring your kids! This is a great opportunity to provide our children with an understanding of the needs in our community.
