Ward 20 Osgoode
In November of 2000, residents elected the first council of the newly amalgamated City of Ottawa. Local residents of Osgoode Ward chose Doug Thompson to represent them as one of the 22 council members of the new City of Ottawa. This large south-east rural ward encompasses several different communities and villages including Edwards, Greely, Enniskerry, Kenmore, Osgoode, Marionville, Marvelville, Metcalfe, and Vernon. Osgoode Ward is home to about 21,500 residents and a large variety of businesses and organizations.
Mr. Thompson graduated from Carleton University, in Ottawa, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science. Mr. Thompson was a teacher for 35 years and has been a resident of Osgoode Township since 1967. Mr. Thompson served as a Councillor for the Township of Osgoode for 14 years during which time he was a member of every Municipal Committee and Community Board.
Mr. Thompson was the Mayor of the Township of Osgoode for 3 years from December 1, 1997 to December 31, 2000, during which time he was active in many groups.
In November 2000, he was elected to the new City of Ottawa Council as Councillor - Ward 20, which came into effect on January 1, 2001. He is the father of four children: Jason (children are Dana and Brett), Jarrett (Erin) (child is Tristan), Ryan (Cathy) and Angela. In November 2003, Doug was acclaimed as Councillor, Osgoode Ward 20. In November 2006, Doug was re-elected with the highest percentage vote of any City councillor. Councillor Thompson continues to dedicate his efforts to the interests of Ward residents and the City as a whole.
