The University of Guelph offers the only equine degree program in Canada - the Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management in Equine Management. This program features hands-on learning focused on the biology, physiology and behaviour of horses as well as the economic, environmental and business aspects of associated industries. After the completion of the second year students transfer to the main Guelph Campus for the final two years of study.
The 2-year Equine Diploma program prepares the student for employment in the Equine Industry through applied learning in a variety of management and equine-related courses.
The Horse Industry Technician 1-year certificate is designed for the individual who seeks “hands on” employment opportunities with horses in the equine industry.
Students enrolled in any of the academic programs may also register in the Riding Instructor Preparatory course or the Rider Preparatory course to develop both their riding and coaching skills while utilizing their own horse. The courses are very skills-oriented, and students learn "by doing". Coupled with riding and coaching theory classes, these courses prepare students for their certification through Equine Canada for Rider Levels, Instructor of Beginners, or Coaching exams.
