The Ottawa Flotilla
TBA
Rideau Canal
Tel: (613) 447-5254
Web Site: www.ottawaflotilla.ca
The Flotilla is an Ottawa tradition that has been taking place for over 50 years and this year the tradition will continue with a new name - OTTAWA FLOTILLA. The Ottawa Flotilla is an annual parade of decorated boats that cruises from Dows Lake and along the Rideau Canal to downtown Ottawa. Held on the May long weekend, participants entertain visitors and residents of Canada's Capital Region in celebration of the arrival of spring.

You can expect to join all types and sizes of boats spectacularly transformed with lights, flowers, props, music and dancing. On May 20th thousands of people will line the banks to watch the boats entertain spectators, judges and participants alike as they parade down the Rideau Canal from Dows Lake to the heart of the city, at the Ottawa Locks. The Ottawa Flotilla Organizing Committee believes that the annual Flotilla is an integral part of community spirit in the National Capital Region and we are dedicated to the continuation of this Ottawa tradition.

All boats are warmly welcomed and encouraged to participate in the weekend activities. Cruisers, houseboats, antique and classic vessels, as well as the manual "Armstrong" kayaks, dragon boats and even rowboats are eligible to enter. Dockage at Dows Lake Marina is free during this weekend and the boat ramp is available for launches.

  • PARADE OF LIGHTS
Lighted boats circle Dows Lake. Fireworks follow if funding allows. Please check back for updates.
  • OTTAWA FLOTILLA
The Ottawa Flotilla consists of a variety of events including an evening parade of lighted boats, day parade of decorated boats from Dows Lake to the Ottawa locks, fireworks, model boat displays, activities for kids, live music and entertainment.

Boats leave their docks at Dows Lake Pavilion at 12:30 PM. They complete a circuit of Dows Lake and begin the journey down the canal to the Ottawa Locks at exactly 1:00 PM.

The Great Glebe Garage Sale
Saturday, May 24, 2008
9:00 am - 3:00 pm
It's been an annual event for years and the residential streets of the Glebe, Ottawa's trendy little shopping neighbourhood, overflow with people searching for hidden treasures and bargains. You can find everything here, including clothes, records, toys, and furniture. Every new house is a new world of possibilities.  Some of the shoppers are Glebites who have left their own sales to explore the wares of their neighbours. However, many people come to this event from all over Ottawa. It's a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning. This is the perfect event for students looking for cheap furniture and household items, and is a great place for expectant mothers and fathers looking for pre-loved baby items. Of course, it's also the ideal place for anyone who has a secret penchant for knick-knacks and do-hickeys.
