The Lafayette first opened its doors in 1849 and although it’s never closed since, this Ottawa establishment has gone through a lot of changes. The current inception is The Laff: a comfortable pub in the heart of Ottawa's ByWard Market.
The Laff's quart-sized beers go over well with the American tourists and all those who just don't get the metric system. If you get the munchies after a few pints, fear not: the Laff is affiliated with the Quiznos next door. You can get your sub right too your table!
There are live bands every week, and there's never a cover charge. In the absence of a band, the tavern has a huge jukebox in the back so you can hear your favourite song as often as you like. A couple of TVs are usually showing whatever sporting event is hot, but no matter the season you can tell you’re in Canada: beer flags and hockey paraphernalia line the walls and flutter from the rafters. A copper-topped bar lends an old-timey feel, and the "Ladies and Escorts" sign on the wall will certainly bring you back to a time when even Ottawa was still young. The newly renovated Dart Room in the back boasts two boards, and free darts (or bring your own, if you're a pro!). And you'll never be without activity: there's Scrabble, Guess Who, checkers, chess, cribbage, and many more games just waiting to be played. So what are you waiting for?
All in all, this local landmark invites any and all to participate and enjoy themselves; no matter the day, the weather, or the company! For more information, visit the website at www.thelaff.ca
