OC Transpo

OC Transpo, the public transportation system, operates a large, modern fleet of standard and articulated buses, providing mass transit service in the Ottawa region. The buses use a combination of dedicated bus-only roads ("Transitway") and regular roads to deliver a transit service that has the highest per-capita ridership for a region of its size in North America.

Introduction to OC Transpo

Transecure.gif (3138 bytes)The Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Commission (OC Transpo) is the exclusive provider of public transit in the urban transit area of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. It operates about 730 buses for regular transit service and contracts a service for the physically disabled, called "Para Transpo", to an independent operator. The Commission also operates charter services in the National Capital Region.

Light Rail

This pilot project is the first step toward city-wide light rail transit. It's an opportunity to measure performance, costs and rider response. The results will help determine whether larger-scale implementation of light-rail transit will occur.

The service uses an existing Canadian Pacific freight rail line that runs from Greenboro Transitway  Station in the south to Lebreton Flats in the north. A total of five stations provide a range of new commuting options and enhance service to Carling Avenue, Confederation Heights and Carleton University.

Light rail goes where the Transitway doesn't, providing convenient access to rapid transit service for as many as 6,400 riders each day.

Fares (subject to change)

Bus fare is $3.00 or two 95¢ bus tickets. Children age 6-11 pay $1.50 or one ticket, and children age 5 and under travel free.  The Ticket saves you 30% over cash, and with The Ticket, you'll never have to worry about having exact change.
