The Lumière Festival, presented each year by the CCCC , is a month of festivities leading towards the magical Evening of Light Celebration held every year within the month of August!
Through lantern-making and performance workshops, and community outreach initiatives Lumière encourages people to come together and share their own creations and view the creations of others in a celebration of light and community.
The Lumière Evening of Light Celebration will enthrall you whether on your own, with friends or with family; a teen or a senior. From the lanterns on display, to the labyrinth, to the performers and music-all illuminated by only lantern and lamplight, Lumière will hold you in its spell. Come re-discover the night and the magic of light!
Young children are eager to be part of the magic, fairy wings bumping behind them as they proudly carry their very own lanterns. Costumes are encouraged and a visit to the on-site Transformation Tent can add a little sparkle to tiny visitors evening.
The event is by donation, so everyone can afford to come!
Ottawa Lumière Festival Brings Community and Art Together with Lantern Making Workshops
The Lumière Festival is produced by the Crichton Cultural Community Centre each summer and always strives to involve a sense of community. By hosting lantern making workshops this August, the Festival aims to incorporate the public with local artists to support Ottawa's creative culture.
Starting August 1st, 2012, drop in workshops take place mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends in the New Edinburgh House located at 255 MacKay Street, as well as in the field house in Stanley Park. Workshops range from 10-20$ and are lead by Rachelle Carrier and assisted by volunteers. Participants are guided through the lantern making process and walk away with a beautiful lantern which we encourage them to bring with them at the Evening of Light Celebration on August 18th in Stanley Park, New Edinburgh.
Lumière Festivals’ 24 Hour Photography Marathon kicks-off at the Rideau Canal's new urban beach café
The 8 Locks' Flat urban beach café contributed $1,000 of its liquor sales from July 13th-15th to raise funds for the Ottawa Lumière Festivals' popular 24 Hour Photography Marathon that kicks off on August 4th.
Participants of the marathon show up to 8 Locks' Flat at 12 noon and receive 10 themes. They're given 24 hours to take a photo representing each of these themes. Judges choose the top 3 representations and the winners receive a large print of their work. Runners' up are printed as well, and all photos are displayed on digital screens at the Evening of Light Celebration on August 18th. Each summer the Lumière Festival produces the event which is open to the public of all ages and free to all participants.
