The Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography

picture

The Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography (CMCP) presents the works of the country's most creative and talented photographers. The changing exhibitions never fail to open your eyes to the power of photography.

The CMCP was created in January 1985 and affiliated with the National Gallery of Canada. However its history goes back to World War II and the Still Photography Division of the National Film Board. In May 1992, the CMCP became a sparkling presence in downtown Ottawa with the opening of a building specially designed to safely house the collection and beautifully showcase its exhibitions. A creative adaptation of an abandoned railway tunnel, it presents dynamic exhibitions by Canada’s best contemporary art and documentary photographers.

It is located in the heart of the nation’s capital, just east of the Parliament Buildings, next to the Château Laurier hotel, overlooking the Rideau Canal.
