910 Gladstone has been a venue for professional theatre in Ottawa since 1982, when it became the home of the Great Canadian Theatre Company. In 2007, when the GCTC moved on to a new facility, local businesspeople, Marilisa Granzotto and Steve Martin acquired the building and began an ambitious renovation. In 2008, the revitalised theatre opened, re-branded as The Gladstone, with the vision to bring accessible, thought-provoking and above all entertaining professional theatre to Ottawa audiences.
The Gladstone audiences have enjoyed polished musicals, hilarious comedies, thought-provoking drama, new works by Ottawa playwrights and a new festive tradition – seasonal plays in the style of a 1940s radio show!
In 2011, Plosive Productions and SevenThirty Productions joined forces to take on the operation of the theatre. The partnership expanded to include shows by Black Sheep Theatre, Bear & Co. and now Same Day Theatre. In addition to our Subscription Series of productions by our partner companies, The Gladstone hosts productions by several guest companies, providing Capital Region audiences with an enticing smorgasbord of the best independent professional theatre Ottawa has to offer. This season’s guest lineup includes shows by A Company of Fools, MaryBeth Productions, Parry Riposte and Vanity Project Productions. In addition, The Gladstone is pleased to support the great tradition of Community Theatre by hosting two productions by Phoenix Players.
The Gladstone is located on Gladstone Avenue at Preston Street, in the heart of Little Italy. With a wide variety of restaurants, cafés and pubs within easy walking distance of the theatre along beautifully revitalized Preston Street, you can go for dinner, enjoy a great show and perhaps finish up with a drink or dessert and coffee. It’s a perfect evening out!
Getting to The Gladstone is easy: from the west, take Hwy 417 to the Rochester St. exit, turn left on Rochester, then left on Gladstone and go one block to Preston. From the east, take the Bronson exit, follow Catherine/Raymond St. to Rochester, turn right and follow the directions as above. There is plenty of street parking in the area around the theatre, or you can use the pay lot at Preston and Louisa St., just south of Gladstone. The Gladstone is also served by the #85 bus (on Preston) and the #14 bus (on Gladstone).
Please join us for our 2013/2014 season and enjoy some of the best live (and lively!) theatre in town!
