About the Show

Gossip, scandal and hilarity are just some of the ingredients that make up George Etherege's classic comedy of manners. The Man of Mode intertwines many subplots that make up the ingenious story line. There is Dorimant the Georgian playboy who is intent on exchanging his current mistress Ms. Loveit for the more attractive Bellinda. There is Young Bellair, hopelessly in love with Emilia, the girl who is father is, unsuccesfully trying to woe. And then there is the eccentric Sir Fopling Flutter, newly returned and "piping hot" from France who is a constant source of amusement for everyone who is around. A classic restoration comedy that is at once funny and startlingly accurate about society The Man of Mode places its rich and wonderful characters against a backdrop of upperclass English society to create a sheer masterpiece of classic comedy.
